As we move into Spring 2022, it's a busy time for kitchen renovations and building projects. With this in mind, let's look at some popular trends for 2022 we are noticing from our designers. These are all kitchen design and decor ideas that we and top designers believe will be popular this year and will stand the test of time.
The world of kitchens has never been more complex with so many different options. The positive is that there is something for everybody and for all kitchens of any size. Kitchen ideas and themes will always remain as trends emerge from new builds to simple kitchen renovations.
Kitchen zoning isn't a new topic, in fact, the idea of the kitchen work triangle has been around nearly a century. However, the lockdowns and pandemic have meant the need for zoning rooms for 'zoom friendly' areas is at it's highest. Hybrid working is still big within the UK and more people than ever are working from home, which has meant the addition of small desks or sectioned-off work areas are very popular. When designing your kitchen, think about creating a small area or quiet place away from the cooking area where one of the family can work or surf the internet.
In the past two years, blue kitchens have taken the world by storm and no doubt was our most popular kitchen colour after light grey in 2020, 2021 and will continue in 2022. Our stunning Midnight Blue was the most popular kitchen island colour and for good reason. More than ever designers use the colours of nature to design living spaces and blue and green are now leading the pack when it comes to adding a splash of colour. The main change this year which we are seeing is the increasing number of lighter shades of blue. Inspired by Scandinavian designs, the sky blues, drift blues and Fjord finishes are a great choice if you're brave enough. Personally, we love the Fjord, white and yellow combination in kitchens at the moment.
Marble worktops have been a popular choice for many years. Previously, only for the rich and famous or ones with a hefty budget, now you can choose from over 50 different marble finishes and effects in many different materials for your kitchen. Our personal best selling kitchen worktop is the marble look of the calacutta gold from Silestone Quartz. And if you cannot afford the stone marble tops, you can still get the look with many impressive laminate versions which are fantastic and look great. The last trend on this small list of upcoming trends in 2022 is hidden and integrated storage and appliances in kitchens. Most of the time, we find customers' main goal when designing their dream kitchen is to gain more worktop space and have a clutter-free space. Following the trends from popular bloggers and influencers such as Mrs Hinch, organisation and simplicity have become a serious 'flex' in the kitchen. The ever-popular look of simple and clean lines and worktops will continue in 2022 and integrated appliances like combination microwaves, integrated fridges and hot boiling water taps will continue to rise.
